I'm usually not a big fan of reality TV, but this one performance was really amazing. Had to share it with people

on the eve of the 2009 elections
The first thing I did when i turned 18 was get a Voter's ID. Most people get things like a driver's license done first, but I was fascinated by this enormous power given to me by my constitution. I wanted to exercise my right to vote. Unfortunately, I turned 18 a little late, the voter's lists for the general elections were ready and my name was not in it. I sat and watched the United Progressive Alliance form the government.
The UPA government consisted of
the Congress, its pre-poll allies that include the RJD, DMK, NCP, PMK, TRS, JMM, LJP, MDMK, AIMIM, PDP, IUML, RPI (A), RPI (G) and KC(J)
The UPA government had six basic principles of governance. It was called the common minimum programme.
1. to preserve, protect and promote social harmony and to enforce the law without fear or favour to deal with all obscurantist and fundamentalist elements who seek to disturb social amity and peace.
Clearly this policy was brought in after the Massacre of muslims in Gujrat, but the interesting thing is that Narendra Modi's government that was held responsible for it is still in power. The UPA government with all it's power, failed to bring these murderers to justice... Apart from that there were several terrorist attacks in India,
2005, New Delhi , Ayodhya , Bangalore
2006, Varanasi , Mumbai
2007, Hyderabad
2008, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Mumabi
to name a few.
Well, I think we can say that the UPA government failed miserably here
2. to ensure that the economy grows at least 7-8% per year in a sustained manner over a decade and more and in a manner that generates employment so that each family is assured of a safe and viable livelihood.
India's economic growth rate has been averaged at 7.5 percent and the unemployment is 7%. Good Job guys.
The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act was a really good idea, but i do not know the details of how it was implemented.
3. to enhance the welfare and well-being of farmers, farm labour and workers, particularly those in the unorganized sector and assure a secure future for their families in every respect.
4. to fully empower women politically, educationally, economically and legally.
The Mahila Bill was shelved but the 27% reservation for OBCs was passed because of guideline no 5
5. to provide for full equality of opportunity, particularly in education and employment for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, OBCs and religious minorities.
Equality of opportunity? The middle class brahmin boy has two options, Be the best, or become extinct.
6. to unleash the creative energies of our entrepreneurs, businessmen, scientists, engineers and all other professionals and productive forces of society.
The chandrayaan was a real success and i congratulate the UPA government on successfully completing this important mission.
There are other articles which have presented the report card of the UPA government
The BJP and the Congress are promising many things
please read their manifestos here and here
I decided to become a passive citizen, because a democracy is only successful with a passive citizenry
